Goran Potkonjak’s first monograph
Published in October 2025 by Scheidegger & Spiess, The View Out of My Window is the first major monograph by photographer Goran Potkonjak. Conceived as a long-term project (2017–2025), the book takes the act of looking out of a window — an intimate, everyday gesture — as a way of portraying some of the world’s largest and most rapidly changing cities in East Asia.
From Seoul to Tokyo, from Hong Kong to Bangkok, from Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Singapore to Taipei and Kuala Lumpur, Potkonjak’s photographs reveal dense cityscapes, quiet side streets, and unexpected moments of stillness within overwhelming urban environments. His perspective is neither nostalgic nor dystopian; instead, it recognizes the city as humanity’s inevitable future — fragile, chaotic, yet full of potential.
With a thoughtful essay by art historian Matthias Fischer and design by the Zurich-based studio Bonbon, the book situates Potkonjak’s images in dialogue with the history of photography itself, echoing Niépce’s earliest experiments with a camera obscura at a window.
The View Out of My Window is more than a documentary; it is an invitation to pause, to observe, and to reconsider how we look at the cities that shape our lives.
